Salary Wahala: Imo Govt Meets With NLC Friday, As Natl. Takes Over Matter

While the 14 days Ultimatum issued to Imo State Government by NLC Imo Chapter is still subsisting, the National Leadership of the NLC has waded into the problem between Imo State Government and workers in Imo.

This is even as Imo State Government has invited Imo NLC for a meeting next Friday.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, National Secretariat has taken over the Imo State protest against the government.

This was disclosed today 3rd Nov. by the Imo State chapter chairman of NLC comrade Austin Chilakpu during an emergency meeting of the State working committee of the union held at the Labour House New Owerri.

Comrade Chilakpu said he contacted the national secretariat of NLC on the development in Imo state between Government and organised Labour on the issue of salary payment of Imo workers and pensioners since the inception of governor Hope Uzodimma administration.

He said that many workers and pensioners in the state have not been paid their salaries and other entitlements.

The chairman also said that there are many other demands made by labour which the government refused to implement that led to the 14day ultimatum given to government to implement the workers demand or face Industrial strike by Imo workers.

The chairman said after going through his complaint which he sent to the national secretariat of NLC, the national took over the matter to handle the issue.

Meanwhile the state government has invited the organised Imo Labour for a meeting on Friday to discuss on the issues raised by organised Labour in the state.

In an invitation letter signed by the secretary to the Imo State government, Mr Cosmas Iwu said the meeting will take place at the office of the secretary to the government of Imo state by 2pm.

Confirming the invitationof the meeting, the chairman of Imo NLC, comrade Austin Chilakpu said that the offcials from the national secretariat of NLC will lead the delegation of the Imo NLC to the meeting.
