Protect Yourselves With Guns, IG Tells Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has charged police officers not to die while carrying the gun.

He said this while delivering his keynote address to officers at the state police command, during his visit to inspect the extent of damage done on police facilities.

IGP Adamu stressed the need for a collaborative effort in combating crime, where the people will form part of the security process and help boost vibrant community policing.

Speaking on End SARS protest, he maintained that the process started as a peaceful one, which according to him was sparked by fake news of police brutality and activities of the Special Anti Robbery Squad in extra-judicial killings.

According to him it was hijacked by hoodlums, who went on damaging spree, destroying government properties, lives, and looting belongings of people.

Even as he expressed shock at the extent of damage done at the police facilities inspected at Nworieubi and Orji in Mbaitoli and Owerri North LGA, respectively.

Inspector Adamu hailed his officers, adding that they restrained themselves during the protest while also making sure not to use maximum force on the protesters.

He also charged police formations to mobilize their men and work in sync with the Command CPs in the areas where they are domiciled, to dominate the public space and ensure peace and safety in the affected areas.

Some area visited by the IGP who came in company of the Force PPRO, DCP, Frank Mbah and other entourage from Abuja, was the damaged police station at Orji and Nworieubi, and also a visit to the Federal Medical Center Owerri, to see injured officers receiving treatment, rounding it off with an address to police officers at the state police command.
