Engr. Ugwuh Kicks Off Imo PDP Youths Football Championship

The State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh, OON Saturday, November 7, 2020 kicked off the maiden edition of the Imo PDP Youths Football Championship for youths across the local government areas of the State.

The event, which was held at the standard football field of All Saints Anglican Church, Egbu Owerri, was organized by Party and coordinated by the Office of the State Youth Leader and the State Organizing Committee (SOC) for the championship.

Indeed, Hon. Greg Nwadike GOC, the State Youth Leader, Imo PDP and Mr. Kelechi Eke, the SOC Chairman packaged a very good and colourful opening ceremony for the championship.

There was match past by the teams from the local government areas. There were displays by Imo PDP Babes of the Office of the State Youth Leader. There was a novelty match between Team Imo PDP Babes, which had Arc Chinomso Odoemenam as Captain and Team Imo PDPWomen Leaders, which had Hon. Chief Mrs. Maria Mbakwe as Captain.

There was the opening ceremony match between Team Orlu Zone and Team Owerri, which ended in 2-2 draw. The two sides comprised real youths of the Party that exhibited real talents in the game of football. It was an entertaining match to signal the commencement of maiden edition of the championship. Draws for the teams were drawn and teams from the various local government areas paired and matched to trade tackles among themselves in the coming days and weeks.

In addition to the august presence of the State Chairman, Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh, OON, the other members of the State Working Committee, including Sir Martin Ejiogu, State Deputy Chairman; Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, State Secretary; Nze Sir Law Biaduo, State Organizing Secretary; Mrs. Maria Mbakwe, State Women Leader; Barr. Chibuisi Obido, Assistant State Vice Chairman (Imo West Senatorial District); Hon. Greg Nwadike GOC, State Youth Leader; and Ogubundu Nwadike, State Publicity Secretary.

Also conspicuously present at the opening ceremony were Imo PDP LGA Chairmen. Imo PDP Zonal and LGA Women Leaders.

Significantly, some notable leaders of the Party, very important personalities and dignitaries, including Chief Analyn Nwaneri, High Chief Dr. Summers Vitus Nwokie (Ikuku 1), Hon. Nze Okey Umez-Eronini, Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, who provided kits for the championship; Chief Onyekachi Amuchie, and many others.

On the whole, the turn out for the opening ceremony was quite impressive. It must have everything to do with the high value and general understanding of the roles of sports, and particularly football, in grooming the lives of youths, who are the indisputable leaders of tomorrow. Sports is one good way for developing talent, character, team work, and endurance required for proper functioning of the youths in the wider society. And sports must be encouraged for youths to properly galvanize and harness their full potentials, and keep them out of anti-social conducts and activities.

Imo PDP has blazed the trail in providing a formal healthy football competition for youths across Imo State. It is believed that the immediate and remote benefits for organizing the championship will be achieved by the time it ends, and going forward.
