Facts have emerged why Imo Speaker, Chiji Collins was Impeached
—As Ohaji Egbema Lawmaker, Hercules Okoro was arrested and detained for thuggery
The good people of Imo State woke up Friday morning with the news of the impeachment of the speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chiji Chimezie Collins, a two term member representing Isiala Mbano state constituency at the state House of ASSEMBLY.
The sudden change of the house speakership believed to be loyal to the governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has raised many eyebrows.
Leading an investigation to unravel what may have caused the impeachment of Hon Chiji Collins, it was revealed to IfeanyiCy blog that, majority of the House members weren’t comfortable with the leadership style of the Isiala Mbano born lawmaker.
According to Hon Ekele Nnodumele, the mover of the motion for the impeachment of Mr Speaker the house member accused Chiji Collins of “gross misconduct, incompetence, financially rascality and sabotage”.
Another house member who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned told IfeanyiCy Media that house members across party line were dissatisfied with the leadership style of Mr speaker to a point that six (6) house members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, vowed that if Mr Speaker is not changed they will cross-carpet to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr speaker, was alleged to have met the aggrieved House members in a closed door meeting sparking criss of confidence among house members who felt that Mr speaker is running the house like a secret cult.
To save the image of the house dominated by the ruling party, APC, honourable members led by Bar Kennedy Ibeh, Uche Ogbuagu, Nwaneri, among others sat and agreed to peacefully change the speaker for the smooth business of the House to continue unhindered. It was at this point, that a meeting was called at the office of the Deputy Speaker, where 19 members of the House endorsed the removal of the speaker.
Unfortunately for the speaker, his foot soldiers in the house led by member representing Ohaji Egbema LGA, Aboh Mbaise LGA, Oru West LGA and Ahiazu Mbaise LGA were sent out for an official assignment without them knowing what was to play out.
On getting the hints that 19 members are set to impeach the Speaker, the Ohaji Egbema House member mobilised thugs to invade the house to forcefully stop the impeachment, but before he could reach the house chamber, the deed had been done peacefully. Angered by the development, he took his thugs and invaded government house where the new speaker, Rt Hon Paul Emezie was been presented to the Governor. Herclus Okoro was alleged to have used dangerous weapons to attack the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu representing Nwangele State Constituency. If not for the intervention of the Governor, who deployed his powers as the chief security officer by ordering the arrest of the honourable member, Herclus Okoro for invading the government House with thugs and personally attacked his colleagues, the story could have been a terrible one.
Information reaching IfeanyiCy blog has it that, though the Ohaji Egbema house member is still under police custody, he had put a call across to the Deputy Speaker to apologise for dishonourable and unwarranted attack at his person.
You could recall that former speaker Rt Hon Chiji Collins was elected speaker Imo State House of Assembly under the PDP supervision of the former governor, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and retained by APC administration of Senator Hope Uzodinma as current Governor of Imo State.
