Okigwe Bye-Election: Araraume Takes Centre Stage

…Concludes Tours Of 64 Wards

…Dominates Media

…Ibezim, Others Gasp For Breaths

Ahead of December 5 Imo North Bye-Election, the APC candidate for the polls, senator Ararume appears to have taken the center stage.

This is even as he had concluded touring the 64 political wards in Okigwe zone where he succinctly gave reasons why he should be elected to serve out the remaining term of Late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu. For the past two weeks, the major media Houses in Imo particularly the print media find it difficult to carry other news materials in their front page newspapers following Advertorials placed by the Destiny Organization, Araraume’s political structure which has its members  drawn  from virtually all the wards in Imo State.

Our reporter who have been following the campaign trend of the said Araraume since his emergence as the candidate of the APC through court’s judgment revealed that in Okigwe, voters have gradually stopped discussion of Frank Ibezim’s, candidature while Araraume has become the talk of the town in all the quarters.

Lead further learned that candidates of other political parties now find it difficult to go ahead with their campaigns since Araraume apart from being a Household name in Imo and Okigwe zone in particular has control of the convincing words to get the people having served as a Senator in Nigeria and also is wealthier when compared with other candidates.

Investigation carried out by Lead revealed that some voters who support Araraume for the December 5 election do that for the simple reason that the two time Senator has a better understanding as well as the reach in the National Assembly more than others and as a continuation of Uwajumogu’s term, Okigwe zone needs an experienced person with the reach to be able to effect the needed representation for Okigwe people, now that positions in the senate had been shared. Araraume had gone to court to challenge the declaration of Ibezim as the winner of the APC primaries where he prayed amongst others that he won the APC primaries. Federal High Court Owerri Division after hearing the matter declared  Araraume the winner of the controversial primaries and ordered INEC to substitute Ibezim’s name with that of Araraume as the APC candidate.

In adherence to the judgment of the court, INEC in their final list of candidates substituted Ibezim with Araraume hence Araraume at the time of filing this report was still the APC candidate for the December polls.

Although the embattled Ibezim has gone to Appeal court to challenge the decision of the lower court but the fear of his supporters remains the possibility of the Appeal court to entertain the matter before the next Saturday’s election.

Meanwhile, Araraume had over the weekend concluded ward to ward tour

The ward tour that kicked off by the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume at Umuduruegbeaguru in Onuimo Local government area  has ended in Amuzi ward, Obowo Local government area of Imo State on Saturday 28th November,2020.

The Ward Campaign tour which was led by a former Commissioner of Works and Housing in Imo State Hon. Peter Ezenwa Orji as the Director-General cross wised the width and breadth of the zone.

Touring the 64 wards Senator Araraume bared his mind on reasons why he is the best for the seat.

He informed the voters of his desire to give the zone fair representation if voted in.  He reminded the people of the projects he attracted to the area when at the Senate between 1999 and 2007 even as he noted that a lot has changed in the polity, saying that the seat needed an experienced person

The party’s candidate put the electorates in the know of major Federal government Project he attracted to the district, adding that he brought NTA Station in Okigwe and electricity transmission line in the area as he regretted that most of those projects have been abandoned due to neglect.

He, therefore, promised to restore them upon going back to the Senate.

In Amuzi ward in Obowo, Local government area where he end the campaign, the crowd that greeted his arrival assured him(Ararume) that they would vote him as well as protecting their votes with a view to ensuring that the preferred candidate emerges victorious on 5th December,2020.
