Despite his seeming victory, over the Rochas Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor faction of the party, Senator Hope Uzodinma is not yet in the clear, and has a lot of battles ahead for him to fight.
Within the party, the battle for the Okigwe Senate ticket, is still a source of headache to Uzodinma, as he isn’t finding it easy dislodging Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and installing his choice candidate, Frank Ibezim.
Araraume seems to be countering every move Uzodinma makes, and seems more likely to be declared the winner of the APC Senate Primaries.
Even on the eve of the Bye-election, where the Appeal Court ruling was timed to remove him, Araraume anticipated that, and also got Ibezim removed, leaving APC in a very embarrassing situation, where the party went to the Election without a candidate.
Uzodinma is very determined that Araraume doesn’t return to the Senate, as he knows the implications of the Isiebu born politician going the Abuja, as it concerns the party’s ticket in 2023.
But for how long can Uzodinma hold off Araraume, who has some very powerful backings, including the former Govenror Rochas Okorocha, who needs Araraume as a tag team partner in the Senate, and make governence very difficult for Uzodinma.
Uzodinma’s war with Okorocha seems to have simmered down a bit, but Okorocha is still a threat against the longevity of the Hope Uzodinma administration.
In a recent comment Okorocha made, he indirectly urged Imo people to consider his son-in-law Uche Nwosu in 2023, emphasizing that Uzodinma had failed the people.
His fight to gain control of the party, was to ensure he has grip over Uzodinma, and maybe deny him the party’s ticket in 2023.
He also knows Uzodinma would frustrate his return to the Senate in 2023, and having a grip of the party structure gives him a better chance to return to Abuja.
With the dissolution of all party structures in the state, the arena has been thrown open for everybody to grab as much of the party, when the structures are reconstituted. How much of it Okorocha can get becomes doubtful with Nwafor out of power as umpire.
Outside his party, there is still a matter that is causing Uzodinma a lot of worry. The Philip Umeadi matter is still on the front burner. There are even talks, that powerful elements, are delaying the hearing of the matter, knowing the eventual outcome.
Whether Hope Uzodinma can successfully explain to the world, how he became APC candidate, after the Supreme Court had ruled that Uche Nwosu was the authentic candidate of the party, remains a storm many are eager to see how he overcomes it.
