Catholic Bishop of Owerri, Moses Chikwe kidnapped

The Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Moses Chikwe have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Bishop Chikwe was abducted by gun-wielding men on December 27th 2020, along the World Bank – Umuguma road in the evening.

His driver was also abducted with him, while his car was later returned to Assumpta Cathedral later that same day.

There has been no contact from his kidnappers, and many now fear that kidnap for ransom may not be the case.

Bishop Chikwe was consecrated bishop on december 12th, 2019. Before his appointment as Auxillary Bishop by Pope Francis, he was the director of Education of the Archdiocese, and collaborator of the Parish of St. Thomas More. Aside being the Auxillary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Owerri (Nigeria), Pope Francis assigned him the Titular See of Flumenzer.

He was ordained a priest by by Archbishop Obinna in 1996.
