Reps Deny Apologising to Buhari

…Denies Withdrawing Summon of Buhari

By Godwin Ogar

The House of Representatives has denied tendering an apology to President Muhammadu Buhari over an earlier invitation given to the president to appear before the lawmakers concerning the high level of insecurity in the country, especially as it concerned the killing of 76 farmers in Zabarmari village of Borno State.

The lawmakers, in response to a motion moved by the House members from Borno State, had requested that the president appear before them to address the issue.

However, the president failed to appear before the House till this moment, even though he earlier promised to address the joint session of the lawmakers.

Recent media reports had indicated that the lawmakers have rescinded the invitation, but the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Ben Kalu, in a statement made available to journalists, has denied the report that the lawmakers apologised to the president over the invitation.
According to him, the House was only carrying out its constitutional duty, and has no reason to apologise to president Buhari. He went further to explain that “the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila will not do anything to desecrate or destroy the critical institution of democracy- the legislature”.
