Orlu Massacre: Well done Gov Hope Uzodinma

I want to commend Gov Hope Uzodinma for listening to a few of us who where courageous enough to condemn the massacre of innocent civilians in Orlu, by authorizing the withdrawal of the trigger happy security operatives. I was peeved with the fact that most supposed leaders from Orlu cowardly and hypocritically, kept mute while their zone was gradually being destroyed. I was also suprised that the governor would risk his political future by allowing his constituency to be turned into a war zone under his watch. I am not from Orlu zone. I am from Owerri zone. But as an activist, when human lives are involved, race or creed must give way to good conscience. That’s why I summoned the courage to speak up.

Something tells me that the governor has a good heart and a listening ear, which is a sign of a good leader. I love that. But I believe he is being wrongly advised by political hawks and greedy vultures around him. He must get rid of them if he wants to succeed. I am not against Sen. Uzodinma as a person. I am only against bad governance. Consequently, I urge the governor to take further steps to:

1.Compensate the individuals and families who lost lives and property in the skirmish.

  1. Direct the security agencies to fish out the erring officers who allegedly brutalized, killed and destroyed properties for appropriate punitive sanctions.
  2. Direct the Ministry of Works and relevant agencies to reconstruct the parts of Orlu that was destroyed during the skirmish.

4.Borrow a leaf from the governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Dave Umahi by directing the Commissioner of Police and Director of DSS to invite the Imo State coordinator of Eastern Security Network with a view to forming a security synergy for maintenance of peace in the State.

I still remain yours truly,
