NUISS Condemns Extortion of Students in Akwakuma Girls School

…Vow to petition UBEC, Education Ministry

The national leadership of the National Union of Imo state students (NUISS) led by Comr. Philipa Mbachu has condemned the high level of Corruption practiced in Akwakuma Girls secondary school, Owerri.

Teachers are said to be seeing competiting on who extort students and parents the highest.

The new style of extortion is worrisome as teachers have stopped students from submitting the normal government approved office flat file which is between N50 to N100. Students are forced to buy from teachers a branded file for N1000.

Comr. Mbachu said the extortion by the teachers is getting on the increase and should be condemned by all persons of good conscience.

“Students and Parents have come to complain about this ill act to us. As a union, we will petition the Universal Basic Education Board and the Ministry of Education, Imo state”, Comr. Mbachu deposited.
